Working Party Matters: Working Party Terms of Reference

Executive Summary

AIM
To utilise the expertise within the Engineering Group to provide a 'one-stop' resource for UK geohazard related information and awareness.

OBJECTIVES
1. To provide a link between Geohazard Experts to those industries, professions and communities that interact or encounter geological hazards in the UK and overseas.

2. To engage with that 'end-user communities' in order to provide a useable resource for their specific geohazard related requirements.

3. To improve communication between specialists, and between hazards practitioners and the wider communities.

MEMBERSHIP
The Working Party will have a UK focus, but it will have a global perspective in the consideration of examples of good practice and the nature of geohazard issues of a generic nature.

It is proposed that two bodies be established: a Panel of Geohazard Experts and a Group of End Users of geohazard related data, information and expertise.

BASIS FOR DISSEMINATION
The preparation of a Web-Based Resource will be the principal outcome. The proposed target of the Working Party will be professions who have to deal with geohazards and their effects: civil engineers, planners, builders, developers, insurers, surveyors, financiers, media, government and aid organisations.

CONCLUSIONS
The Working Party Report will help to put the study and assessment of geohazards into the wider social context, helping the engineering geologist to better communicate the issues concerning geohazards to the Client and the Public.
